Great question. When we use proper names like ‘Pablo’ or “Susana’, I can say:
el gato de Pablo
or
el gato de Susana

However, when I use nouns such as ‘el hombre’ or ‘la mujer’
el gato del hombre
el gato de la mujer

de + el gives us ‘del’

now when we are talking about a ‘mr’ , ‘mrs’ or ‘miss’ (señor, señora, señorita), we leave the article in…
el gato del Señor Jordan
el gato de la Señora Martínez
el gato de la Señorita Lozano

I just have one quick question about the cat example. Why did you use del instead of de for the first response establishing whose cat it was?
